I thought I had to be a registered charity to claim Gift Aid?

No, you can claim up to £5000 on the Gift Aid scheme before having to register as a charity.

If I want to claim back more than £5000 how easy is it for me to register as a charity?

You can easily register your school PTA as a charity.  We can put you in touch with a contact at NCPTA who can tell you all you need to know.

How do I know which donations qualify for Gift Aid?

As long as the donor is a UK taxpayer and has signed a declaration stating this to be true then you can claim Gift Aid on any donation they make.

Where can I get one of these declarations?

Merge & Claim Manager has a preloaded declaration template ready for distribution.

Can I claim Gift Aid on historical donations?

Yes you can.  You can claim up to 6 years of Gift Aid if you are a registered Charity.

I find filling in the R68 form tiresome and tricky.

We know, that’s why with M&C you don’t have to!  The software calculates your tax back, then instantly populates the R68 form for you.  All you have to do is print it, pop it in the post, and wait for your cheque.

Do I have to type in all the parent/guardian information when I start?

No.  You can import all the relevant details from your schools administration database.

Our budget is tight at the moment. I don’t think I can afford it.

Exactly! Under the current economic climate schools must make the most of every pound.  What better way to do this than by reclaiming tax under the Gift Aid scheme.  Claim Gift Aid on £530 and recover the cost of Merge & Claim Manager.

Do I need School Fund Manager to use Merge and Claim?

No.  You can use Merge and Claim without the use of School Fund Manager.  However, if you want to merge reports from School Fund Manager you will need to be using the SFM program.
